In September 2024, Tata Electronics, in collaboration with Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), announced plans to establish India's first semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera. This initiative represents a substantial investment of ₹91,000 crore and is poised to process 50,000 wafer starts per month. The facility will focus on manufacturing power management integrated circuits, display drivers, microcontrollers, and high-performance computing chips tailored for applications in artificial intelligence, automotive sectors, computing, data storage, and wireless communication technologies.

To ensure the success of this venture, Tata Electronics has entered into strategic partnerships with industry leaders. In June 2024, a collaboration with Synopsys was established to leverage their foundry design platform, expediting the customization of semiconductor products for Tata's clientele. This partnership encompasses areas such as data analytics, computer-aided design, factory automation, and the development of product design kits and intellectual property specific to the chip fabrication process.

Further bolstering this initiative, Tokyo Electron has committed to supplying essential equipment and providing comprehensive training to Tata Electronics' workforce. This collaboration aims to ensure that the facility meets its targeted operational timeline, with chip manufacturing expected to commence by 2026. The partnership covers both front-end manufacturing and back-end packaging technologies, with Tokyo Electron also investing in ongoing research and development to enhance production capabilities.
